What we collect when you read, contact us or send a story.

Reading the website

Our visitor statistics record the page path, date and time of a visit. Query strings and URL fragments are not saved. To estimate daily visitors, the server creates a daily identifier from the network address and browser type using a secret key. Our statistics database does not store the raw network address or browser details. The identifier changes each day.

We use no analytics cookies or browser storage for this tracking. Recognised bots, visits by the signed-in publisher, and browsers sending Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals are excluded. Analytics records are retained for up to 90 days and older records are removed as new visits arrive. Only the publisher can view the statistics.

Contact, advertising enquiries and story submissions

Forms save your name, email address, subject and message in our private newsroom inbox so we can review and respond. Story submissions may also include a byline, category, original article link and publication date. Sending a story does not publish it automatically. If a story is accepted, the agreed article content and byline may become public; your email address is not displayed with it.

Messages remain in the newsroom inbox until removed by the publisher. Please avoid sending confidential source details or sensitive personal information through these forms. To discuss a message you have sent or request its removal, use our contact form and include its reference if available.

Advertising and sharing

Paid banners are labelled Advertisement. Opening an advert or a social sharing link takes you to another service, whose own privacy practices apply. Sharing links are activated only when you choose to use them; we do not embed social tracking widgets.

Hosting and publisher sign-in

The website is hosted through ChatGPT Sites. Hosting and sign-in providers may process technical information to deliver and secure their services. The publisher signs in through OpenAI; this website does not receive the publisher’s password. The analytics description above covers our own visitor statistics, rather than every technical record a hosting provider may keep.
