“Whoever taught Harry Kane how to score beautiful goals should be knighted.”
I wrote those words in January 2015. More than a decade later, Kane is a Ballon d’Or winner, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve enjoyed watching him for a long time. The goals, the movement, the finishing. Back in 2015, I called him a poacher and said his positioning was “terrifying”. A few years later, after another clinical penalty, I wrote: “He’s such a joy to watch.”
By 2020, I had a simple answer when I asked which player people would sign for their team: “Kane to United.” Sadly, that one never happened!

In 2023, when he became England’s all-time top scorer, I felt he deserved a major trophy to go with his goals. “It’s time to make that move,” I wrote.

Now, seeing him lift the Ballon d’Or feels special. For those of us who have admired him through the years, it’s a moment to enjoy.
As I said back in 2018: #NeverDoubtKane. ❤️
